SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Northwestern beat previously unbeaten Dorman 35-19 on Friday night in a top-tier Class AAAAA matchup, handing the Spartanburg County Cavaliers their first loss while staying atop Region 2-AAAAA.

Public score summaries said No. 2 Northwestern defeated No. 3 Dorman 35-19 in a showdown between two of the state top three teams. The Trojans moved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 2-AAAAA and will host Spartanburg next week.

Coverage of the Friday night slate said Northwestern entered the week as the number one team in South Carolina high school football after a win over Boiling Springs, while Dorman entered as a top-three side after beating Fort Mill. After the win, Northwestern also sat as Region 2-AAAAA leaders while defending a state title.

Recaps of the game said the Trojans produced a 16-point victory and were held below 50 points for just the second time this season. Dorman still got a strong rushing night from its lead back, but the Cavaliers could not close the gap after falling behind.

Next week on the calendar, Northwestern is listed against a 2-5 Spartanburg side, while Dorman draws 6-1 Boiling Springs, whose only loss of the season came against Northwestern. For Spartanburg, S.C., fans, the Vikings now face a measuring-stick visit to D3 Stadium against the region leaders.

Friday results also rippled across the Upstate, with Boiling Springs rallying past Rock Hill in overtime the same night. Local programs now turn to Week 9 with region standings tightening after Dorman first loss.
