  • Size limits: Confirm black-bass minimums and closures for your specific lake in current SCDNR eRegulations.

Fishing FAQ
Common questions about fishing in the Greer area, answered.
  • Yes. All anglers age 16 and older need a SC fishing license to fish public waters in Greenville County. SC residents pay $10 for an annual freshwater license. Non-residents pay $35 annually or $11 for a 3-day license. Licenses are available at SCDNR.sc.gov or at local sporting goods and tackle shops. Two Free Fishing Days — May 25 (Memorial weekend) and July 4 — require no license.
  • Greer anglers fish Greer CPW reservoirs and Upstate rivers — Lake Robinson, Lake Cunningham, the Enoree River, and the South Tyger River — not another county’s municipal reservoir system. Robinson and Cunningham support bass, crappie, and catfish with CPW-managed access. The Enoree and South Tyger add river bass and panfish options.
  • Crappie around Greer spawn from late March through April as water hits the upper 50s to mid 60s. Target brush and docks on Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham in 2–8 feet during the spawn, then deeper brush piles afterward. Fall brings a second schooling window.
  • Yes. Lake Cunningham and quieter arms of Lake Robinson are well suited to kayaks, and the Enoree / South Tyger corridors offer float-and-fish stretches when flows are moderate. Wear a PFD and respect any CPW access rules.
  • The Enoree and South Tyger near Greer hold largemouth bass, spotted bass, redbreast and other sunfish, and catfish in shoals and bend holes. Kayak or wade access at public road crossings is the usual approach — confirm private-property boundaries before you step in.
  • SCDNR stocks selected Upstate waters with trout in cool months. Check the current freshwater trout stocking report at dnr.sc.gov for streams within a drive of Greer; Greer’s home lakes are primarily warmwater bass and panfish fisheries.
