GREER, S.C. — A dump truck knocked a line of internet cables onto South Buncombe Road on Friday morning, briefly putting a lane out of service and knocking out internet for some nearby apartment residents, Greer police said.
The Greer Police Department confirmed a dump truck caused the cable line to fall in one of the lanes on South Buncombe Road for a short time. A traffic light at the scene also appeared to be damaged.
Police and firefighters directed traffic through the busy corridor while Spectrum crews worked on the downed lines. The stretch sits near a popular ice cream shop and several apartment complexes.
Residents at a nearby apartment complex said their internet was out after the cables came down. By later Friday, Greer police said all lanes on the road were open again.
It was not immediately clear how long full cable repairs would take or whether the dump truck involved had been identified. Drivers along South Buncombe Road were still likely to see crews and temporary delays as work continued.
Similar overhead-cable disruptions have hit other Upstate communities in recent months, including fiber cuts and thefts elsewhere in Spartanburg County that left customers without service for hours while crews replaced long stretches of line.
