GREER, S.C. — Part of West Poinsett Street in Greer was blocked for close to four hours Saturday morning, Oct. 17, after a vehicle hit a utility pole and left it and its power lines lying in the roadway.
The Greer Police Department shut the street between South Beverly Lane and South Howell Street at around 8:11 a.m.
Utility workers at the scene said the impact broke the pole into three pieces, and they began putting up a new one.
At about 11:55 a.m., police posted on Facebook that the blocked section was open again. By the afternoon the damaged pole had been hauled away and cars were moving through normally.
The closure fell on the western end of the Poinsett Street corridor that runs through downtown Greer. The police department itself sits on the same street, at 301 East Poinsett Street.
