GREER, S.C. — Equipment for Isuzu North America’s new truck plant in Greenville County has started flowing through Greer, with the first container of production gear arriving at Inland Port Greer by rail from the Port of Charleston on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The South Carolina Ports Authority called the delivery a key milestone for the automaker. The automaker settled on Greenville County in 2025, and the ports agency credits the direct rail line between Charleston and the Greer yard as one factor in that choice.
The factory is slated to turn out gas and electric versions of the N-Series truck along with the diesel F-Series, and production is expected to start in 2027.
The Greer yard has handled cargo since 2013. Its volume grew 355% over its first ten years, which led to a $55 million expansion finished in 2025 that added 9,000 feet of track and lifted capacity to 300,000 rail lifts a year. Norfolk Southern runs overnight trains to and from Charleston six days a week.
Rail has shaped Greer from the start: the city grew up around a railroad depot on the Richmond and Danville Railroad in the 1870s. Isuzu now joins BMW Manufacturing Co., the largest automaker with a plant in the Greer area, as a vehicle builder leaning on Upstate freight connections.
