GREER, S.C. — A man was wounded in the arm Monday night inside a Publix in Greer after a handgun slipped out of his pocket and fired when it struck the floor, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 911 call came in at about 6:41 p.m. from the store on The Parkway. Responding deputies found him with a single wound to the arm. According to the sheriff’s office, he had been in the store with his wife and young child, and when he put a hand in his pocket the pistol came loose, hit the ground and discharged.

Deputies gave him first aid in the store before he was taken to a hospital. His injury is not considered life threatening, and he is expected to recover.
